New Paid Family Leave Insurance Program

Beginning January 1, 2004, employers are required to deduct Paid Family Leave contributions from the wages of employees who are covered by State Disability Insurance (SDI). Individuals may file claims for benefits beginning July 1, 2004.

For California workers covered by State Disability Insurance (SDI), Paid Family Leave insurance provides up to six weeks of benefits for individuals who must take time off to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, or domestic partner, or to bond with a new minor child.
